On Saturday 5th November and Sunday 6th November, our Comet
airliner simulator will be touring the whole of Great Britain. Taking off from
Biggin Hill on Saturday morning and visiting every major civil airport
in England, Scotland and Wales before returning to
Biggin on Sunday evening.
For every leg of the tour, we need Scouts and
Explorers to pilot our aircraft including the take off and
landing. Full instruction will be given and an Instructor will
help you with the navigation but you will be in control of the
aircraft. Each crew of 2 will have an hour on the flight-deck
and depending on the leg can visit up to 4 locations with a landing
and take off at each airport. This event is open to Scouts and Explorers as we have found that Beavers and Cubs are physically not large enough to operate all the controls in the cockpit.
If you think that you or your young people would
like to take the controls of a 1950's vintage airliner and 'virtually' visit
different parts of the country, please email
ianthomas@da81eq.freeserve.co.uk
with the part(s) of the tour you'd like to fly. Every flight will
need a Captain and First Officer so if you have 4 young people
interested, simply book 2 flights. For the route, schedule and
to see availability of legs, please click
HERE.
You will need to arrive at the Scout Aviation
Centre at least 45 minutes before your flight time so that you
can be briefed and pre-flighted. Directions to the centre can be
found by clicking
here. We hope you will enjoy flying i.FLY and that as many
young people as possible are able to experience this different
and unique Scouting opportunity.
