Within the Scout Aviation Centre, we have a genuine General Precision Systems flight procedure trainer used by Air Service Training at Hamble to provide initial training to BOAC pilots for the Comet 4. The DeHavilland DH-106 Comet was the first British civil jet airliner and
first flew in 1949 so it really is an important part of aviation
history. It is now possible to 'fly' this aircraft out of the airport you're sitting in and perhaps more importantly attempt to land back at Biggin or even Heathrow. Remember that take-off is optional but landing is mandatory!
It is possible for Groups to book dedicated time in our Comet. We do charge for this in order to cover our electricity costs and to ensure that we have a spare projector bulb when it expires. Current cost is £15 per hour which we think is reasonable as a 20 minute flight in the Boeing 737 simulator at Bluewater is more than 10 times this.
